II. Getting Started

There are three major steps that must be taken before you can play Shattered Galaxy. In order, they are downloading the game, creating your character, and registering your character. Each step is explained in detail below.

A. Download

To download Shattered Galaxy, please follow the below instructions:

1. Free at least 200 MB of hard disk space on your computer.
   
   
2. Close all applications except your connection to your internet service provider (ISP).
   
   
3. Visit http://www.sgalaxy.com
   
   
4. Click on download
   
   
5. Download either the single file or the nine separate files. If you have a poor internet connection, we recommend downloading the nine files.
   
   
6. If you download the nine separate files, use WinRAR (http://winfiles.cnet.com/apps/98/compress.html)to extract them after you have successfully downloaded all nine files.
   
   
7. Double-click on SGalaxySetup and follow the instructions to install Shattered Galaxy.

If you encounter problems while downloading or installing, please search the technical support section of our website at http://www.sgalaxy.com/ for the solution to your problem.

B. Hero Creation

After you have downloaded the client, "Connect" to the game server. After a slight delay, a new menu will appear. Select "New Hero" to create your character, or hero. The hero creation screen will appear. Note: Heroes cannot be deleted after they are created.

Enter the following information about your hero:

1. Name
   
   Your hero's name. Your name will always appear in the game exactly as you type it during character creation. Choose a name that you can take pride in and that is suitable for the Shattered Galaxy world. Hero names cannot be changed after creation.
   
   
2. Password
   
   Choose a password of at least eight characters that contains both letters and numbers. Tell your password to no one. KRU Interactive will never ask you for your hero's password.
   
   
3. Faction
   
   Use the arrow keys above the map to scroll between possible factions. The graphic shown is that faction's flag. The name, portrait and statement of the faction's current Overlord will appear. You will have the opportunity to change your faction after your hero progresses enough in the game.
   
   
4. Appearance
   
   Your hero's appearance is shown on the left. Use the arrow keys below the graphic of your hero to scroll between possible appearances. Hero appearance has no effect on game play and cannot be changed after the hero has been created.
   
   
5. Attributes
   
   Heroes have four attributes: Tactics, Education, Clout, and Mechanical Aptitude (Mech Apt). The minimum value of each attribute is 5. Through play, attributes can reach a maximum of 120. A hero's starting attributes must total 40. Use the arrow keys to raise/lower attributes and the disk icon to save a specific attribute while still modifying others. Descriptions of the attributes and their effects are outlined in section III.B.4.

C. Hero Registration

The hero registration step is not needed during the beta test of Shattered Galaxy. Simply use the "Continue" button in the game to logon as your hero.

D. Interactive Tutorial

When your hero first enters the game, a brief, interactive tutorial will begin. Simply follow the directions provided by your guide to practice fighting with a variety of units, buy your first units and find and fight your first actual battle. Please refer to this manual for more detailed information.
